Lila Bruk is a registered dietician and functional nutritionist based in Illovo, Johannesburg and has been in private practice since 2006.
Lila graduated from the University of Cape Town (UCT) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry in 2002, followed by a Bachelor of Science Medical (Honours) degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2004 also from UCT. In 2010 she completed a Masters in Nutritional Sciences through the University of Stellenbosch in the fields of body image in pre-adolescent girls, digestive disorders, sports nutrition and food allergies.
In 2023, Lila qualified as an Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner (IFNCP) through the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy (IFNA), which has given her extensive knowledge and insight into the true root causes of disease and poor health, as well as how to treat these conditions effectively through nutrition interventions and supplementation.
Lila has also completed the Manuka course in Advanced Translational Nutrigenomics, which has provided excellent training in the emerging and cutting-edge field of nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics. She is also an EatFit FODMAP approved dietitian and is able to assist with elimination diets for the management of digestive disorders. Lila has completed the CDE Optifast-VLCD Programme training and is registered to prescribe the Optifast Programme.
Lila is passionate about promoting health and good nutrition and thus has written in over 450 general and health-related publications such as YOU Magazine, FairLady, COSMOPOLITAN, Women's Health, Men's Health and Longevity. She also gives regular lectures on nutrition-related topics around the country, and appears regularly on television and radio.
Lila is very involved in the corporate wellness space and has participated and organised wellness days, weight loss programmes and lecture series for such companies as Investec, EY, Sanlam, British Airways, Alexander Forbes, Hollard, 3M and Sun International.
Lila has a special interest in nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics, the nutritional management of lifestyle diseases (including diabetes, insulin resistance and heart disease), digestive disorders (e.g. Crohn’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome), eating disorders, food allergies and sports nutrition. Lila believes that everyone deserves to feel their best, to reach their optimal health and food is the key to get there!
Lila is registered with the HPCSA (Health Professionals Council of South Africa), the Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA), and the South African Medico-Legal Association (SAMLA). She held the Sponsorship portfolio on the ADSA Executive Committee for the July 2013 to June 2015 term of office. She was also the chairperson for the ADSA Gauteng South branch from July 2009 to June 2013.
